The decision of which puppy to select is at best a difficult one. You as a potential client of Junebug Chesapeakes have an important task at hand. "How do I know which one to pick for me"? Is often a question that I hear. The best answer to that question is "You picked the litter (Parents/Breeding) now rely on the breeder determine which pup fits your needs the best" Let me explain: I will start by stating that we reserve one male and one female for ourselves. This doesn't mean we won't sell one or both of these pups but we will only take deposits on 5 or 6 puppies. We don't claim to have a puppy for everyone, we strive to breed highly trainable, stable and loving dogs. We document the progress of each puppy we raise, keeping records of things like, prey drive, natural instinct to chase and retrieve, concentration as well as conformation, structure and personality. We hope that each puppy we breed will grow to be the retriever that you have always dreamed of. We also hope that each puppy that we breed will also be the best family pet that you have ever owned. These two things put a lot of pressure on us to ensure that each puppy goes to the home that suits it best. I often get questions from potential owners like: "If I send you a deposit now do I get first pick male/female?" We do not specify what order you get to pick your new puppy. A deposit is for a male or female, we don't accept deposits on color. If we have the color you want all the better but if not we will gladly refund your deposit. Selection is based on what the client wants in a puppy, intended use of the puppy plays a large part in our placement process. First and foremost we want the best homes possible for our puppies. However we strive to place our puppies in working homes, we look for Hunt Test/Field Trial homes as well as hunting homes as our top priority. Obviously you nor I can tell which pup will be a Master Hunter or the best hunting Chesapeake ever, you can, however, make some judgements about retrieving desire, birdiness, focus, pain tolerance, response to pressure, and energy level. Keep in mind that these pups are constantly changing and by the time they are 7 weeks what could of been the most aggressive puppy of the litter could now be shadowed by another fast developing pup. This is why we answer the question "How do I know which one to pick for me" ? with "You picked the litter (Parents/Breeding) now rely on the breeder determine which pup fits your needs the best" (What does this mean for the new client. Simply that by getting to know you and what your needs and desires are allows me to select the correct puppy for you. For instance when you come to make a selection or should I say find out which puppy will be yours I will do my best to give you more than one puppy to choose from. If you are looking for a combination gun dog and house dog I will remove from the high roller, and the wall flower from your selection choices. On the other hand if you are wanting a high end hunt test dog I will point out who the high rollers are. I am committed to ensure you are fully aware of this prior to placing a deposit on a puppy. This method ensures that the puppies will be placed in the proper home.) If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us via phone or email. We can't answer your questions if you do not ask !!!! . |
